University-Owned Computers
Departments and offices in Academic Affairs are expected to order standard computers as defined on this page for all offices, labs, and classrooms and for all types of funds (regular, endowment, donation, and grant). Requests for advanced computers or specifications different from those listed will be considered on a case by case basis, upon submission of a request for non-standard computer equipment.
PDF files are provided below with specifications for desktop and laptop models. All computer orders must be first approved for payment by Budget Unit Heads (BUHs), Unit Leaders (Chair, etc), AAMT administrator, (and the Provost, if $25,000+) and then reviewed by Academic Technology before submission to the Purchasing Office. Academic units are encouraged to wait for the Bi-Yearly Bulk Orders. Detailed steps for submitting paperwork are available for Immediate Need Orders.
Computers will be ordered with Windows Vista and then will be downgraded to Window XP, a right we have under the Microsoft Campus Agreeement. ITS requires that PC computers they support run Windows XP.
Note: Dell's PDF quotes have the cost for Shipping & Handling listed. You do not need to include this amount on the purchase requisition form. There is no charge for our default 3--7 days shipping option.

We have been asked about netbooks and computers with different hardware specification. Due to hardware's limited or extended functionality, neither AT nor ITS may be able to provide the full support. We may be able to guide you to whatever that works for you.

Netbooks: - Acer Aspire One 751h - Nokia Booklet 3G |
Netbook display with 1366x768 screen resolution is better. 1024x600 or less has an issue with interactive dialog boxes-- which causes buttons, menus and others be out of reach, (outside the display zone). Some models' RAM (memory) are not upgradeable, (locked to 1GB only). Generally, 1GB is okay as long as applications do not require much more. |
